The Bodies We Capture, the Bodies We Inhabit
Author: Ali Amiri (UGC)
A poetic reflection on drawing, routine, and perception during a nude evening class at the Academy in Vienna.
Observing change within repetition during a nude drawing class: A free interpretation of the course “Drawing Studies/Life Drawing (Evening Nude)” with Gerlind Zeilner.
I first joined the course to earn credits, but it unexpectedly became a personal turning point. It reminded me of past drawing sessions in Tehran, but now in a new, open context. I reflected on routine, the act of seeing, and how even repetition can carry quiet resistance. The models, the staging, and our presence were never the same twice. Each session offered something subtly new — inviting us to look differently, and perhaps, to see ourselves differently.
Ali Amiri is a filmmaker and visual artist, currently studying in the Art and Time | Film department at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. His work spans video, performance, and narrative experimentation.
