A Day in the Class of Scenography
Author: Emma Ait Kaci (UGC)
As part of the stage design course in the summer semester 2023, our class explored working collectively. No more models and dramaturgies, everyone for themselves. Group work replaced individual research.
We were able to choose a workshop in groups for the whole year. The different workshops on offer show the diversity and complementarity of teaching on the course:
- Workshop ausgehend von einem klassischen Text des späten 19. Jahrhunderts, Ibsens Nora.
- Workshop based on several monologues by the contemporary playwright Wolfram Lotz
- Workshop on the concept of "disappearance" at an abandoned site in Vienna
- Digital workshop by working with Rhino and 3D software.
This attempt in one semester dedicated to the collective was largely a success. The gradual disappearance of hierarchies between teachers and students and the many meetings between the workshops and feedback from the whole class made the finalization of this group work possible.
Emma's photo series provides an insight into the stage design course at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. It is an end-of-semester project in which students work collaboratively on diverse content.
