Kiosk - Platform Vielfalt
Author: Plattform Vielfalt (Red)
What is Kiosk?
Kiosk is a digital communication platform of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna that encourages diversity. The platform is designed to make information about studying more accessible. Kiosk offers a safe and inclusive environment that answers questions about applications, study programs, and artistic careers. Kiosk also enables students to share their experiences with other students at the Academy and provides insights into everyday student life.
What are the Goals of the Platform Vielfalt Project?
The aim of this project is to appeal to a new generation of students and to open up the art university to more diverse student groups. We’re committed to giving everyone – inclusive of origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion or ideology, physical or mental abilities, and social status – the opportunity to develop and express their artistic abilities. At the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, we are committed to promoting, supporting, and valuing the greatest possible diversity of perspectives, experiences, and forms of artistic expression.
From Idea to Design
An important part of the inspiration for the platform’s design is Daniel Spoerri’s work Anecdoted Topography of Chance. This piece is a kind of map of a table in Spoerri’s hotel room. The artist documented all the objects that happened to be on the table. It includes glasses, crumbs of bread and cutlery as well as an alarm clock, a lighter and a bottle. Seemingly unimportant details are precisely located and described, giving them a new meaning.
In a certain way, the platform also represents a topography of chance. So this image stands for a diverse collection of contributions and different perspectives on the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
