Educational Pathways

My Path to the Academy - many Interests and Experiences.

Author: Barbora Chen (Red)

After my bilingual Czech-French high school diploma in the Czech Republic, I wasn't sure what I should study. I talked to many people about it, but I was still uncertain. So, I decided to apply for a study program in France that encompassed various fields.

After passing the entrance exam, I moved to Dijon for my bachelor's degree. There, I learned German and then did a year abroad in Vienna at the end of my bachelor's. During this time, I became interested in cities and sociology. Therefore, I decided to pursue a master's degree in urban studies after my bachelor's. I moved to Paris for this and studied there for two years. For my master’s degree, I also needed relevant work experience, which I obtained at a research institute in Vienna. I chose Vienna because I wanted to live and work here after graduation. I succeeded in doing so as my internship turned into a full-time job. I worked at the research institute for another three years.

During my time at the institute, I worked on various projects. I particularly enjoyed the cross-border projects where I could collaborate with colleagues from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. Here, I also did public relations work, which I find particularly exciting. I then switched to an architectural firm where I could continue working in this area.

After my maternity leave, I wanted to return to work but didn't want to stay in the same office. So, I found a job at the Academy. Now, I'm dedicated to making the path to the Academy easier for disadvantaged youth. And I do it with a lot of joy.
