Do you have questions about the application and admission? We have collected a list of frequently asked questions here, maybe your question is among them.
- I would like to find out more about studying at the Academy. Is there an Open Day?
The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna organizes the "Rundgang" every year at the end of January. During the 4-day varied program, you have the opportunity to get to know the Academy, teachers and students better and to gain an insight into the collections, departments and studios at the Academy. Teachers and students from all institutes look forward to engaging in dialog and discussion with visitors.
You will find the current festival program on the Academy website in advance.
- Is there an age limit for studying at the Academy?
No, there is no age limit.
- Can I study without a high school diploma?
For admission to the Architecture and Artistic Teaching degree programs, an Austrian school-leaving certificate, an equivalent certificate such as the Abitur, the university entrance qualification examination for the respective subject or the Berufsreifeprüfung is required.
For all other fields of study, no school-leaving certificate is required, only proof of artistic ability must be provided as part of the entrance examination.
- I don't have my school-leaving certificate yet, can I still apply?
Yes, if a relevant school-leaving certificate is required for the respective field of study, you can provide this proof at the start of your studies after successfully passing the entrance examination.
- Which language certificates are recognized as proof?
Depending on the individual fields of study, different language skills are required. The Academy generally accepts all officially recognized language certificates as well as proof in school-leaving certificates. Further details on the recognized certificates can be found on the website.
- I am already studying art at another university. Do I still have to take the entrance exam?
In order to be admitted to the Academy, you must pass the entrance examination, regardless of which university you are studying at or which degree course you have already completed. Once you have been admitted as a regular student, it is possible to transfer credits for subjects you have already completed in previous studies.
- Can I take the entrance exam in English?
This depends on the individual field of study. For the diploma programs in Fine Arts and Stage Design, it is possible to take the entrance examination in English. Please refer to the academy website for information on the admission examination procedure for the respective field of study.
- Can I take the entrance exam at a later date?
No, that is not possible.
- Where can I get confirmation of admission to the Academy of Fine Arts?
Upon written request, the Registrar's Office will issue a confirmation that you have passed the entrance examination for the relevant field of study. Contact the Registrar's Office and send a scan of your passport and your registration number for the entrance examination by e-mail: studienabteilung@akbild.ac.at.
